Getting advice from CAB

Welcome to Plymouth Citizens Advice Bureau, a confidential information and advice service for people who live, work or study in Plymouth.

Our service can help in the following ways:-

  • Explain complicated documents that use difficult language
  • Give impartial advice on your rights and responsibilities
  • Monitor trends in policies and practices so that we can speak up for our clients and campaign for change
  • Negotiate with your local authority, for instance, if you think your housing benefit or council tax benefit could be wrong
  • Help you with your budgeting and with managing your debts
  • Help you with claiming the benefits to which you are entitled
  • Speak and write on your behalf

Service Disruption!

Advice Plymouth will be closed on Friday 22nd March due to office relocation. Our telephone service will resume at 9am on Saturday 23rd March.

There will be an extremely limited drop-in service at Cobourg House from Monday 25th March until Wednesday 27th March. This will be our last day of service at Cobourg House.

The drop-in service will resume at Ernest English House, Buckwell Street, PL1 2DA (near Bretonside Bus Station) at 9am on Tuesday 2nd April 2013.

For customers in temporary hardship and new to debt we may be able to help with short term assistance for ongoing payments or a grant to clear small debts. For customers who are renting their home and are more than 1 year in debt WaterCare/Restart may be the solution. We will also identify the most economical tariff for you so help prevent arrears reoccurring.
